Southside’s Varsity Football team set the season off with a huge win over one of their biggest rivals- the Northside Grizzlies. The team played a long, hard game and ended up winning with a score of 42-35. Southside’s defense was able to successfully stop Northside’s offense; meanwhile, Southside’s offense made many great passes and runs. This is the first time Southside has beaten Northside since 2016, breaking their losing streak against them.
This season, the team traveled to Jonesboro on November 10th to compete in the first round of playoffs. Southside’s quarterback, Carter Zimmerman, threw great passes, resulting in multiple touchdowns. The game ended with a score of 53-27, with Southside in the lead. This is the first time Southside’s team made it past the first round of the playoffs since 2018. This victory led the team to the quarterfinals which they played against Fayetteville.
The football team headed off to Fayetteville on November 17th to play in the quarter-finals. The team fought hard and came close to beating the undefeated Fayetteville team. Southside was down 30-10 until they scored a touchdown with under five minutes to go in the 4th quarter. The offense scored again two plays later on two long passes. The last touchdown was caught by wide receiver George Herrell. The game ended with a score of 30-24.
Southside had an outstanding rushing team with good blockers and runners. Amari Tucker was the leading rusher in their division thanks to great blocks and runs. Amari Tucker, as well as Issac Gregory, have racked up more than 1,000 yards rushing apiece. The team has scored over 400 points on the season and finished with a winning record of 7-5. The team has never had that high of a record since 2018. Overall, the football team had a very successful season this year and had some elite players.
