After being together for two years, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce announced their engagement on Tuesday, August 26, 2025. Kelce had been planning the proposal for months, including co-designing Swift’s large, custom ring. The proposal took place in Kelce’s garden at his estate in Leawood, Kansas, near Kansas City, and it occurred shortly after they finished taping Swift’s appearance on the “New Heights” podcast. Although the announcement took place just recently, Travis Kelce’s father, Ed Kelce, confirmed that the actual proposal occurred about two weeks prior to the announcement, and that he had been aware of Kelce’s plan to propose for months. Ed told a Cleveland TV station that the proposal actually happened about two weeks ago in the garden of Kelce’s home. However, Ed seemed to make a mistake in saying the location was in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, not Leawood. (NPR)
“He got her out there, they were about to go out to dinner, and he said, ‘Let’s go out and have a glass of wine,’ … they got out there, and that’s when he asked her, and it was beautiful,” Ed Kelce said in the interview. “They started FaceTiming me and their mother and her folks to make sure everybody knew. So, to see them together is great.”
The couple announced their celebration via concurrent posts on Instagram, with a caption reading, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.” The post included 5 photos showing the couple embracing in a floral setting, with a close-up shot of Taylor’s huge ring.
Taylor and Travis started dating after Kelce revealed that he tried to give Swift a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it at one of her Eras Tour concerts. Shortly after, Kelce then shared on his “New Heights” podcast his feelings for Swift, and that he’d failed to meet her that night, a gesture Swift found “adorable” and a sign of “courage”. Kelce said on the podcast that he was “the luckiest guy in the world” and gave the Eras tour credit for their relationship, stating he left mesmerized and wanting to meet.
They then began to secretly hang out shortly after that for a “significant amount of time that no one knew” so that they could get to know each other better. Swift then later on attended a Chiefs game in September 2023 to support Kelce, publicly confirming that they were officially a couple. (CNN)
Swift has become a frequent fixture at Chiefs games since making her relationship with tight end Kelce public in September 2023. The announcement follows another big one she made on the New Heights podcast, introducing her next album, “The Life of a Showgirl.” On the show, Swift shared how the podcast sparked their relationship when Kelce spoke about how he failed to give her a friendship bracelet at her Kansas City stop during the Eras tour, calling it a “wild romantic gesture.”
“If this guy isn’t crazy, which is a big if, this is sort of what I’ve been writing songs about wanting to happen to me since I was a teenager,” Swift said.
Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift received considerable criticism from the outside world during the two-year period they spent together as a couple. People would claim that their relationship was a “performance” or that it was “fake” for publicity. Some NFL fans even stated that the amount of airtime Swift received during games was distracting from the actual football game. Other negative comments targeted Swift’s age and maturity in public, and some fans expressed jealousy or negativity toward Kelce within the Swiftie fandom. Although there was much hate from people all around, the couple responded to the hate by largely ignoring the “outside noise” and focusing on their happiness together. Swift has even stated that they “show up for each other,” and don’t care about others’ opinions. Kelce emphasizes that they are “just two people in a relationship supporting each other,” and that their happiness is all that matters.
Obviously, the hate didn’t affect the couple because now they are engaged, which probably makes even more people irritated. This famous couple did an amazing job by disregarding all of the hateful things people constantly said about them and realizing that all they needed was happiness and each other. Now, Swift and Kelce get to see where this new life update is going to take them, and now Taylor Swift can use their story to convey some new relatable music!
