Volleyball Takes Home Silver in Springfield

Over the weekend on September 17, the Southside volleyball team brought back the silver title at the Springfield Classic Tournament. The varsity squad traveled to Springfield, MO to compete for a record of 4-1-1 on the day. This tournament raised the overall earned record to 15-5-1.
“Honestly, it went better as the day went on. We started out slow and unfocused but started to find our rhythm later in the day. Our last game we had several great kills and defensive plays against a strong hitting team,” senior setter Kennedy Meadors said. Meadors finished with 60 assists and 18 digs.
The Mavs played Kickapoo, Ozark, Logan Rogersville, Carls Junction, Shiloh Christian, and a championship match against Republic to win the silver bracket. Senior libero Tinsley Freeman put up 46 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Gabriela Dupree getting 32 kills.
“I felt a strong sense of togetherness and felt that all the hard work and dedication that we have been putting in was finally paying off,” sophomore setter Mileah Neal said. Neal also ended with 60 assists and five aces.
Another achievement included the selection of sophomore middle blocker Lydia Pitts for the all-tournament team. She finished the day with 51 kills and a .441 hitting percentage.
”It feels great to be recognized by other coaches who see your potential and hard work,” Pitts said.
