Out of any holiday, Thanksgiving has the best food. No room for debate. The meaty turkey, fluffy mashed potatoes, my Aunt’s special mac and cheese, and dozens of different pies… It’s heaven for a foodie like myself. Every year, I’m in a turkey coma. But what really is the best Thanksgiving food? Is it a part of the main meal, or is it dessert? Or maybe it’s something special that a family member makes? (Spoiler alert: It is the sides.)
“My favorite Thanksgiving food is probably our Vietnamese turkey because it is very flavorful,” says Senior Kat Tran. A classic. I mean, come on, turkey is delicious. (And if you eat ham on Thanksgiving, you are WRONG.)
Junior Elaina Haney believes, “Cranberry sauce is the best Thanksgiving food because not only is it sweet, it’s a little tangy too. Plus, anything with cranberries is an instant win, whether it is sauce or juice. It’s one of the best foods ever.”
Senior Ava Sicard said, “I love mashed potatoes. That’s my all-time favorite, but I also love getting mac and cheese, specifically the one that my mom makes, because we make it a special way. I also love apple pie for dessert.” This is perfect, and I have no notes.
Lastly, Junior Tori Smith seals the deal, saying, “My favorite Thanksgiving food is probably mashed potatoes, but I don’t really have a reason why.”
But she doesn’t need a reason why mashed potatoes are superior.
If you couldn’t already guess, mashed potatoes are my favorite Thanksgiving food, specifically, the kind my grandma makes. They are fluffy and loaded with butter and pepper. It’s like eating a cloud in the best way possible. And the GRAVY? What’s not to love? I will say mac and cheese is a close second, specifically the kind that my aunt makes. They are so creamy and perfect that I cannot help but get thirds. Add a little beef, and you’ve got heaven in food form. Next in line is rolls. Yes, the turkey is great, but the sides on Thanksgiving are ultimately superior for all; Mashed potatoes for the win. Happy Holidays.
