Southside had its annual basketball senior night on Friday, February 23, to honor our 2024 seniors and celebrate the final home game of the season. The Varsity girls’ game began at 6:30, and it was a well-played game. Southside girls started to lead, but most of the game went back and forth. By halftime, Bentonville gained quite a few points and took the lead. By the end of the game, the score was close, but Bentonville won 49-47.
After the girls’ game, Southside had a ceremony for the 2024 seniors. Seniors from the varsity boys’ and girls’ basketball team, Southern Belles, and Varsity Cheer were announced during the ceremony and escorted by their parents. Southside announced each senior’s plans for college and introduced their major. Immediately after the ceremony, the Varsity boys played their game against Bentonville.
The boys kept tying the score in the first quarter of the game until Southside took the lead for the rest of the game. The boys scored several points during the second quarter and took a big lead by halftime. For Southside’s halftime performances, the senior Southern Belles performed their traditional lyrical routine, and it was definitely a tear-jerker. The Varsity Cheer team followed up with the seniors screaming their chant and the rest of the cheer team joining in for the remainder of the performance. They were both fantastic last performances for the seniors!
The Southside boys kept making good shots in the third quarter and increased their lead. At one point, Southside scored several shots in a row, most being three-pointers. This would give Southside a considerable lead. It was an exhilarating game, and Southside won with a score of 79-62. It was a great way to end off the last game of the season with a Maverick victory!
