With 1989 (Taylor’s Version) being released in almost a month, it is time to revisit the album that originally took the world by storm in 2014. The original album had thirteen songs, and the deluxe version contained sixteen. The album would go on to win various awards including Album of the Year at the Grammys.
Following the release of Red, Taylor Swift received hate for her songs about her exes. Determined to shed this image of being only the men she dated, she formed a friend group, commonly referred to as her “squad,” of powerful women in the entertainment industry. This group had celebrities like Selena Gomez, Gigi Hadid, Cara Delevingne, Karlie Kloss, and others.
While the 1989 album still featured songs about her love interests, it also had songs like Welcome to New York and New Romantics. Her music video for the song Bad Blood featured many members of her squad and was an alleged clapback to Katy Perry who shaded her in the media.
Despite Swift’s efforts to change her image, the hate towards her grew. Fans and friends alike turned against Swift in her feud with Kanye West. She went silent from the media for three years and it was unknown when and if she would return. However, three years later she released her sixth album Reputation. Now almost ten years later, Taylor Swift plans to re-record her 1989 album and release five unheard songs with it called vault tracks.
