Olivia Rodrigo released her sophomore album GUTS this past month. The album charted at No.1 on the Billboard Top 100 and all songs on the album appeared in the Top 40. However, this wasn’t Rodrigo’s first brush with success.
Rodrigo’s lead single off her debut album SOUR, “driver’s license” received massive attention from the media. An emotional ballad over a previous relationship soared to No.1 on the charts. Not only was Rodrigo only seventeen at the time of its release, but rumors of a Hollywood love triangle surrounded its release. Another single from her debut album, “good 4 u,” also went to No.1 on the Billboard Top 100. That year she received the Best New Artist Award at the Grammys.
Even before her music career, Rodrigo saw success in acting. She had minor roles in various Disney Channel roles before landing the lead role on Bizaardvark. While not a critically acclaimed show, it boosted her in the acting industry. She later played Nini in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, a Disney show geared towards more of a preteen audience. This show helped her get her foot in the door for music with the song “All I Want” reaching the Billboard Top 100. It also introduced her to the alleged focus of the SOUR album, Joshua Bassett. As GUTS surpasses many records set by the album SOUR, Rodrigo continues to cement herself in music industry history.
