The debate of pancakes vs. waffles is a heated one: one that has long gone unresolved. Pancakes have IHOP and waffles have Waffle House. Waffles are crispy while pancakes are soft. It all depends on your preferences.
Pancakes have lots going for them. They are soft and fluffy, and you have so many options when it comes to pancakes. You can do a classic butter and syrup moment or add some peanut butter, berries, and/or chocolate chips! Pancakes can also be stacked, which makes it very easy to eat.
Waffles are also pretty great. While pancakes are fluffy and soft, waffles are crispy with square holes that can be filled with ingredients like syrup, chocolate chips, berries, butter, etc. While waffles can’t be stacked, they do have a secret ingredient. Chicken! Chicken and waffles is a huge combo that is popular all across America.
To “end” this debate, Southside Mav Media created an Instagram poll, and Southside students took time to vote on which was better: pancakes or waffles. After waiting almost a full 24 hours, the results were very close. 53% of students said pancakes (79), while 47% of students (71) voted for waffles.
Defender of pancakes, Jett Welborn, said, “It’s a weekly tradition on Sunday morning in my house of being pancake morning. So, my whole life has been built around consistent pancake meetings. It’s almost like nostalgic for me.”
On the other hand, Teya Haney is a passionate supporter of waffles. “Waffles are ten times better than pancakes. They have little squares that hold syrup and butter, and you can put everything on them!” Haney said.
I prefer pancakes, mainly because I’ve had lots of really good pancakes, and too many really bad waffles. But I can see why the debate is so heated.
So is there ever going to be a winner? No, there isn’t. Pancakes vs. Waffles will always be a debate. But according to Southside High School: pancakes for the win.
