Artificial Intelligence, or commonly referred to as AI, has taken the world by storm in recent years. Forms of AI that have the ability to write, or rewrite, all types of writing open a world of possibilities. Because of how new it is and its accessibility to the general public, it raises questions on how it should be used, if at all.
Concern is raised as to whether or not this form of AI will replace jobs and take away from writing skills of future generations. Recently, the Writers Guild of America or WGA went on strike for higher pay and to ensure studios will not use AI to rewrite or replace their scripts. AI also threatens school children as they are reverting to sites like ChatGPT to write for them instead of learning on their own.
While this kind of AI can be used harmfully, there are also benefits. Sites like Grammarly.com offer editing tools that reword sentences, phrases, and even individual words to sound more professional. GoblinTools, an app available for most mobile devices, allows you to import pieces of text and reword them to sound more or less professional.
Overall, AI is new and still very unexplored. It is in the hands of the people to decide how to use it. It can either take away all that is good about writing in our society, or it can make it stronger.
