Sabrina Carpenter released the deluxe version of her highly acclaimed Short n Sweet album with five new songs on Valentine’s Day. Best part: it will only take you fifteen minutes to listen to the new songs! The Grammy-winning album took the pop world by storm last summer when it was released. Fans were ecstatic about the new songs. In the new songs, Carpenter shows her classic pop style, but also flirts with the idea of country. The new songs give variety to the album.
Her new songs “15 Minutes,” “Please Please Please (feat. Dolly Parton),””Couldn’t Make It Any Harder,””Busy Woman,” and “Bad Reviews,” give us more insight into what Carpenter can do. I love that some of the songs are super upbeat (like the rest of the album) and others are more mellow. I like it when an album has some diversity and isn’t just one vibe/way.
“15 Minutes” – Starting off with a bang! This song is probably my favorite out of the new ones. The chorus is SO catchy and I love how upbeat it is. Right after I heard it for the first time, I caught myself humming it throughout the day.
“Please Please Please (feat. Dolly Parton)” – This is a love/hate song for me. I love the country sounding music at the beginning. I think that was the perfect twist. Carpenter’s voice also sounds way softer in this version and it is HEAVENLY. Now for the cons. Don’t get me wrong, I love Dolly, but for some reason her voice sounds like she’s just inhaled a large amount of helium. I love her other music but this one didn’t hit for me. I will say it is very iconic that Parton made Carpenter change her famous line in this song. Parton is willing to meet Carpenter on different turf, but her roots stay the same.
“Couldn’t Make It Any Harder” – This is one of the sadder songs I am talking about. One thing I love about this song is Carpenter shows off her vocals in this one. Actually, that’s probably the only thing I love about this song. I don’t find the music that addictive, so it’s hard for me to crave listening to this. Her vocals are great though.
“Busy Woman” – This song has to be one of Carpenter’s most hilarious songs yet. The first couple of seconds had my jaw dropping. Personally it isn’t anything crazy for me, but I think this sums up Carpenter and her music style perfectly. I do like the beat, I just prefer lyrics that have a deeper meaning.
“Bad Reviews” – I hate to say this, but I have a bad review for this song. It just isn’t anything special. I like her voice in this, as well as the fiddle. But other than that, I think this song is kind of boring. I hate to say it but that’s the truth. I will say that at the end of the song it starts to pick up a little, and I enjoy that part.
While most of these new songs were a flop for me, I still love Carpenter and her music. I know plenty of people, like my cousin and uncle, who would completely disagree with my opinions. My cousin loves “Couldn’t Make It Any Harder” and my uncle thinks each song is pure perfection. As a whole, I love the Short n Sweet album and will listen to anything Carpenter comes out with.
