Two men, 18-year-old Logan David Patterson and 20-year-old Dominique Frank Cardoza, were arrested for the explosion that occurred at Harvard Medical School on Saturday. The explosion has been reported to have been caused by a Roman candle firework that was set off on the fourth floor of the building. Luckily, no one was hurt, and there was minimal property damage to the school.
Ted Dox, the FBI agent in charge of the investigation, said, “This explosive device had the potential to cause significant injury to anyone nearby, but only by sheer luck, and because of a rapid response by first responders, no lives were lost, no one was injured, and property damage was limited.”
The two men apparently boasted about the dangerous “prank” to their friends, and Cordoza went as far as disposing of his pants in a nearby dumpster to cover up the crime. The local fire department had determined that the fire was lit on purpose, and security cameras caught both of the subjects at the scene of the crime.
U.S. Attorney Leah B. Foley said, “Anxiety levels naturally rise when the public learns that an explosion was intentionally caused. I would say those levels may rise even higher in the Boston area.’
The investigation is ongoing, but it has been determined that there is no further threat to the Boston area. The two men are both charged individually with conspiracy to damage, but it has been ruled as an isolated incident; therefore, there is no reason to expect any other related attacks on Harvard.
