The third and biggest No Kings protest that occurred March 28 is estimated to be the largest yet, with around 8 million participants and 3.100 registered gatherings across the United States. The largest rally was in St. Paul, Minnesota, featuring famous singer Bruce Springsteen. Outside of the United States, over a dozen other countries planned protests against Trump and their own governments.
This most recent installment of the No Kings protest has a list of causes, including the war in Iran, Trump’s actions towards immigrants, budget cuts to healthcare and education, and a rise in cost of living.
No Kings organizer Katy Gates, said, “Our generation has grown up with this idea of endless war in the Middle East…And the idea of getting into yet another is something that people are rightfully really angry about.”
The No Kings website claims, “The president thinks his rule is absolute. But in America, we don’t have kings — and we won’t back down against chaos, corruption, and cruelty.”
Rome protested against Premier Giorgia Meloni, Italy’s Prime Minister, because of its conservative government and perceived threats to the citizens’ freedoms.
In Paris, hundreds of people, including Americans locals, labor unions, and human rights organizations, voiced their grievances against Trump’s actions. The protest occurred near the Bastille.
Ada Shen, the organizer of the Paris No Kings Day protest, said “I protest all of Trump’s illegal, immoral, reckless, and feckless, endless wars.”
These protests are in direct response to Trump’s decisions regarding foreign countries, citizens of the United States, and upcoming midterm votes. Protests in other countries sprouted because of the controversial nature of Trump’s decision.
