Hamilton, the hit Broadway show, celebrated its 10th anniversary on Aug 6th, 2025. The cast and crew of the original Broadway cast hosted events throughout the year to celebrate their hard work to bring the show to life. Lin-Manuel Miranda, the composer and star of Hamilton, has hosted many live events and entertainment over the past few months. He has raised money for his charity ‘Immigrants: We Get the Job Done’ campaign after doing different sweepstakes with big prizes for the winners. This included a fan-filled matinee and an invitation-only evening performance that featured the original cast, current cast, and other alumni.
Hamilton was written and composed by Lin-Manuel Miranda after he read the book ‘Alexander Hamilton’ by Ron Chernow. Miranda has discussed in recent and past interviews that even while reading the story, he could see how this could work as a musical and how it would sound to him. Miranda would go to the White House in 2009 and play the rough draft of the first song he had written, called ‘Alexander Hamilton’. People there had laughed when they first heard the idea of a hip-hop musical about one of the founding fathers. Almost six years later, with lots of hard work from everyone involved, the project would premiere off-Broadway on February 17, 2015. Until it was put on Broadway on Aug 6, 2015, and has been there since. It has also done touring shows around the U.S. and shows in the UK and Australia.
Hamilton has made a massive impact on the theater community and young theatergoers. Over these past seven months, there have been multiple celebrations for the success of Hamilton. Lin-Manuel Miranda has started “Movies with Lin-Manuel” at the Royal Theater in New York. This involves him and one of his fellow cast mates sitting down and watching a movie that includes that cast mate. They would then have a big discussion with each other and the audience before performing a song from Hamilton. Miranda has also done three ‘Ham4Ham’ events outside of the Richard Rogers theater, which was a big event that would have the original cast doing live performances outside of the theater doors.. Miranda would gather cast members from any of the new Broadway musicals of the season and have them perform in front of an audience for free. There were also online competitions for people to win free tickets to the show or a meet-and-greet with some of the original cast members.
But the big cast reunion everyone was looking forward to was at the 78th annual Tony Awards. Everyone from the original cast, including the ensemble, got together and did a performance that had a mix of songs that would smoothly transition into each other. They had won over the crowd that night, getting millions of views from the viewers at home.
In addition to the events in New York, the pro shot that is currently streaming on Hamilton will be showing in theaters on Sept. 5 in the U.S. and Canada. It has been confirmed to be a sing-along version, and Miranda has encouraged the people watching to sing along with the actors on screen.
