On November 10th, 2025, the New York Giants officially parted ways with head coach Brian Daboll after an embarrassing 2-8 start to the 2025 NFL season. Since being hired on January 28, 2022, Daboll’s all-time record is underwhelming at 20-40-1 in regular-season games.
This season may sting more than others as Giants fans had high expectations after acquiring a star rookie Quarterback, Jackson Dart. In college, Dart set an Ole Miss record, having the most wins by a starting quarterback with 29-10. Additionally, this season, the Giants lost their star rookie running back, Cam Skattebo. On October 26, Skattebo dislocated his right ankle, which was later discovered to also include a fractured leg and a ruptured deltoid ligament. The last time the Giants had a winning record was in 2016, with a 11-5 record. In that year, the Giants advanced to the wild card game, where they eventually lost, ending their season.
The Giants’ offensive coordinator, Mike Kafka, will step in as the interim head coach for the remainder of the season. Kafka will be the seventh Giants’ head coach since 2016, the former Giants’ head coaches have been Steve Spagnuolo, Ben McAdoo, Pat Shurmur, Joe Judge, and finally Daboll.
This decision also stems from the fact that the Giants blew four double-digit leads in road losses this season. To add on, all the blown leads came late in the game when it matters most. Although Daboll was fired, the remainder of the staff remains in place. The Giants also announced on Monday that the general manager, Joe Schoen, will remain in his position and will lead the search for a new head coach.
Many people believe that New York’s decision to fire Daboll might have been made a little too early. Daboll finally found a star quarterback to leave his Giants team, but developing a rookie quarterback and turning a team around is not an easy task.
