The story of Elphaba and Glinda’s friendship continues through Wicked: For Good. Elphaba, who has stolen the Grimmie and is now known as “The Wicked Witch of the West,” has been outcast and lives alone in the Ozian Forest. While her old friend Glinda now resides at the Emerald City palace and is trying to use her magic for the good of the people but is conflicted by the Wizard and Madam Morrible, who are determined to capture Elphaba. The sequel will take a deeper dive into the emotional split between Elphaba and Glinda during ‘Defying Gravity’ at the end of the first movie.
The exact plot of “Wicked: For Good” remains under wraps, but the films were adapted from the long-running Broadway musical, which is based on Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West.” There will be two new songs added by the musical’s lyricist and composer Stephen Schwartz, which will add more to the plot that wasn’t in the original Broadway musical. It was also announced on Oct. 20th, 2025, that Colman Domingo will be the official voice of the Cowardly Lion.
Wicked: For Good has been estimated to make $115 million or more at the Thanksgiving box office this year when it comes out on Nov. 21, 2024. The first Wicked made $734 million worldwide in its theatrical run and more when it came out on digital. Wicked: For Good, will be coming to theaters on Nov. 21, 2025, exactly one year after Wicked came out.
