Jurassic Park: Rebirth is the latest movie in the Jurassic Park/World collection, which came out July 2nd, and while it made $800 million worldwide and was one of the most successful movies that came out over the summer, the story flopped.
The story follows a new set of characters in the same classic Jurassic Park universe that travel to an island to collect dinosaur samples. It stars the famous actress Scarlett Johansson, along with other blooming actors and actresses, including Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali.
The story behind the movie felt repetitive and shallow, going through the same movements of an island with dinosaurs, getting stranded, and having to escape without being eaten. There weren’t any new twists added, besides a new dinosaur that was put in at the very end, which looked as if it belonged in a horror movie rather than Jurassic Park. If more movies are going to be released about the same story, they need to have better writing and better ideas.
Jurassic Park: Rebirth didn’t have anything original from past movies. The characters in this movie lacked personal depth and could greatly benefit from better writing. Rebirth was supposed to be a “reboot” of sorts from the original franchise, yet it felt more as though they kicked out the classics and replaced them with poorly written characters. It was nearly impossible to connect with any of the characters before they died or the movie ended. The writing behind them felt rushed and unrefined.
Even the dinosaurs in this movie looked more like ugly mutants than actual dinosaurs. This might have been on purpose, and if it was, it was a bad decision. To me, it no longer gave the classic feeling of seeing dinosaurs that you got with the first few movies. The movie felt more like a thriller movie with monsters rather than an action movie with dinosaurs.
The writing felt rushed, the characters were shallow and lacked development, and the dinosaurs from Jurassic Park must have been the monsters featured in the film. If there are going to be more Jurassic Park movies released, this is a great learning experience for what needs to be improved and what should never be done again.
