Students gathered at the Southside’s flagpole at 7:20 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25th, for See You At The Pole. See You at the Pole is an annual gathering for Christian students at school flag poles for worship and prayer.
See You At The Pole was established on Sept. 12, 1990, in Burleson, Texas, when a group of teenagers gathered to pray for several schools. The students were deeply moved and burdened for their friends, leading them to drive to three different schools and pray at the flagpoles. This act of obedience sparked a vision for students across Texas to gather at their school flagpoles to pray simultaneously, named See You at the Pole.
The theme for this year’s See You At The Pole event was “First Pray.” This was based on 1 Timothy 2:1, which says, “First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone.” It engages students in prayer for various concerns, including schools, communities, friends, and classmates.
A religious speaker and several church leaders from various churches led students throughout this event. Several groups of students and teachers prayed for different matters.
“Walking out there to all the people, I was in awe for the first few moments. Praying with my friend and learning to pray out loud gave me a whole new on things. I never knew so many people would come together at school to pray to God. It was an amazing experience that will always resonate with me,” says Sophomore Crosby Turnage.
See You At The Pole was a successful event not only for Southside but for various schools all over the world. This event encourages students to pray for their schools and the students.
