On Friday, Sept. 13, Southside’s 2024 Football Homecoming court was announced. This year’s homecoming court is: Lily Phomakay (Senior), Liddie-Ann Adams (Senior), Annabelle Lovett (Senior), Adelaide Coleman (Senior), AnnMarie Kersh (Senior), Madelyn Maxey (Junior), Alee Thongprachanh (Junior), Lexi Ortiz-Mendez (Junior), Mary Carballo (Junior), Ellen Garlow (Sophomore), Hadleigh Clifton (Sophomore), Addelyn Armstrong (Sophomore), Rachel Settle (Sophomore), Sophia Nyguen (Freshman), Isabel Ortega (Freshman), Isabella Sisco (Freshman), and Gianna La Torre (Freshman).
Junior maid Mary Carballo says, “My freshman year, I did basketball HoCo court and had so much fun, which made me want to run for football my junior year.”
“The best part of being a maid is the tradition behind it. There’s been so many years of homecoming court, and it is an honor to represent my school,” says Carballo.
“Being a Homecoming maid is important to me because these high school years are unlike any others,” says Carballo, “It is a representation of not only my school but as well as my youth.”
Carballo says she hopes to “gain many happy memories” as it encourages her “to be more involved in my school to truly get everything out of these special years.”
Senior maid Annmarie Kersh says she “saw it as a unique opportunity to be a part of an ongoing and fun tradition at Southside.”
Kersh finds the best part to be “the excitement of being a part of the Homecoming celebration and sharing that moment with friends and family,” but she adds, “The most difficult part was definitely finding the perfect dress!”
“It’s a chance to represent my school and show my appreciation for all the amazing people and experiences I’ve had here. I hope to make lasting memories and form deeper connections with my classmates and the community,” says Kersh.
Throughout Homecoming week, students had the opportunity to vote for one of the five senior Homecoming maids to be crowned queen. The ceremony starts at 6:30 p.m., and each maid will be announced as they are escorted by their fathers. At the end of the ceremony, the 2024 Football Homecoming Queen will be announced and presented with the crown.
